You do not need to prepare an individual routine; all audition routines are taught during training sessions. We are looking for individuals who are good performers and who can learn routines quickly with uniformity of style and appearance. Learning sessions are open to the public; auditions will be closed to the public. All equipment will be provided.
Wear shorts and tennis shoes (sneakers) and a form-fitting short sleeve or sleeveless jersey or shell (or warm-up outfit). Do not wear blue jeans!
A clinic for students interested in performing with the 2010 Blue Band Silks will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 9:00 am–3:30 pm at the Blue Band Building on the University Park campus. There will be a one-hour break for lunch. Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to attend the clinic. Clinic attendance is not required for consideration at final auditions.
Any student who has been accepted to Penn State University and assigned to the University Park campus and/or any student currently enrolled at the University Park campus may attend the clinic and audition.
Interested students who are currently attending classes at any of the branch campus locations, or incoming freshmen placed at a branch campus, may attend the clinic and be considered for an “Early Transfer Audition.” Be advised that the early transfer process is extremely competitive. Consideration for an early transfer is based on the quality of your audition. The final decision on academic eligibility for early transfer is made in the Academic Services Office. Clinic attendance would be, at the very least, a valuable introduction to the requirements of a successful Blue Band Silk audition.
To register for the clinic and/or fall auditions, all students, new and returning, must file an “Intent to Audition” form. The administrative deadline for filing your Intent to Audition form is August 2, 2010. If you miss this date, please contact the Blue Band office immediately by calling (814) 865-3982.
There are no scholarships available for majorettes or silks who perform with the Blue Band. The Penn State Marching Blue Band is proud to be one of the nation's premier university marching bands.
Any further questions can be directed to the Blue Band Office at (814) 865-3982 or to Kathy Bamat, Band Front Coordinator at (814) 863-8406 from 7:30 am–4:30 pm.
